This is our new beginning, our dream life and we would love to have you follow along to witness our take on this crazy, wonderful world.
You can read more about why we are embarking on this journey here.
Victoria – I am a dreamer, a romantic and a little bit hippy.
I am a 30 year old homeschooling Mum to two wonderful boys and an AirBnB hostess who is passionate about all things to do with health and my family. I am also the creator and main writer for this blog however I do let the accountant husband have a voice on here from time to time, particularly with everything budget related.
I love all things natural, spending time at the beach, shooting hoops with my boys, reading, dancing to the latest pop music and singing to all the Eminem greats.
I am also the researcher. I research a topic until there are no avenues left to explore. Honestly, hours upon hours are utilised (or wasted according to the hubby) until I am satisfied that I have the answer I need. My family and extended family have nicknamed me ‘The Travel Agent’ as I am always finding them the best deals available to their delight and to the detriment of my beauty sleep. Hopefully this will put me in good stead for this year or so of travelling, although, the husband is weary of the fact that I may research this trip too much (is there such a thing?) and therefore I may miss out on experiencing certain things off the cuff. I guess time will tell if I should cut back on my research or not.
Ricky – Husband and father of the family who is very much the realist of the bunch and does his best to keep us all grounded.
He is 31 years young and is seriously brilliant in his accounting role. But, alas, his job is consuming his life and affecting our family as a result and so it is time to hit the emergency stop and jump! He used to be an easy going, fun guy to be around and I do recall that he liked to chill in the sun with a beer in hand, play social games of cricket and basketball and hang out with his family and friends although sadly, this is a side of him we no longer see. He is seriously depressed, in a suicidal kind of way, and while we are slowly day by day pulling him away from the dark cloud that is depression, he needs this break to give him time to heal and for our family to survive and reconnect. I think that he may struggle with so much free time at first but hopefully through this experience he will rediscover what it is that makes him truly happy and why life is worth living.
Ash – Is our 9 year old son who is a brilliantly smart, outgoing boy who inherited his mother and fathers best and worst tendencies.
He is serious yet funny, a stress monkey who likes nothing better than to play make believe games and someone who hates the unknown, yet thrives in that environment. Ash enjoys Jiu Jitsu, skateboarding, biking, basketball and is obsessed with all things Pokemon. From a young age he has struggled with what we were told were autistic tendencies, however with the right environment and diet (one that is void of any dairy and gluten) these tendencies are rarely present in everyday life. I think this will be something that may be more difficult to manage whilst travelling full time. However, Ash, like his mother, is passionate about eating healthy foods and takes great initiative when it comes to controlling his diet so lets hope that we can help him to maintain this while we are away from home.
Roars – Is our 6 year old son who is a real tripper.
He has the long hair that turns into dreads two minutes after it has been combed, the causal carefree attitude and a knack for disappearing right when there is work to be done. He shares many of the same interests as his brother including Jiu Jitsu, skateboarding and basketball however his true passion lies in playing with and building Lego creations. He is super excited to pick up some Lego or more like Lego look-alike souvenirs along the way. Roars also has a wicked sense of humour, surprises you with startlingly accurate insights into many situations and is the most joyful little dude I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is lazy though and always somehow manages to coax his big brother into doing jobs for him so it will be interesting to see how he handles the responsibility of packing and carrying his own possessions. Or perhaps more accurately how he persuades his brother to help him with this task.
We all hail from the beautiful South Island of New Zealand however we have been living on the stunning Gold Coast for the past 3 years and have enjoyed many of the unique events and experiences that this coastal holiday destination boasts.
This blog will follow our family as we explore new places and experience all that they have to offer. It will be an honest account of where we are, what we are doing, how much money we are spending and how we are feeling. I will not gloss over any of the not so great aspects of our trip nor will I downplay the great. It will be a real account so that we as a family have something to look back on and so that our family and friends can see how we are faring along the way. We hope to inspire others to follow their passions and to live life the way they choose to live rather than following the well paved path of the 9-5 (this is such a cliche as for many it is more realistically far more hours than this entails) corporate world.
We are not experienced travellers and therefore not experts on any of the places that we visit. Because of this any of the information we share will be our own newly formed opinions and first impressions of a place, event or thing etc. We will be completely honest and upfront about almost any aspect of our trip and these will not be influenced by anyone other than ourselves.
If you have any questions regarding our travels or would like for me to share more information on a particular aspect of our trip, please leave a comment on any of my posts, or send me a message below. Also please connect with us by subscribing to receive new blog posts directly to your inbox or following us on facebook and instagram to receive daily updates of our travels.
